Apparel trims and notions are used in addition to the fabric that makes up your garment.

While fabrics fulfill the main design objective of your product, trims (may also be referred to as notions) are critically important to both the functionality and the aesthetics of your product.

There are many trim options in the market and this is the place to finesse your designs.

Trims encompass items such as fasteners (zippers, buttons, hook and loop, snaps…), tapes, binding, linings, ribbons, sequins and more.  These are commonly known as ‘visible’ trims on your garments.

Trims may also be ‘invisible’.  These would include elastics, fusing’s etc.  These are components that are used to build the garment and add in functionality but are not visible to the wearer.

Trims should not be overlooked as they impact many areas of development.  Do you have the correct elastic at the waist for fit, is the lining machine washable for easy care, are those rhinestones affordable and work within your margins?

When trims are finalized, its important to include them in your Bill of Materials (BOM) which is a page within your tech pack. This provides your garment manufacturer full specification on how and where to apply the trims.

We encourage our clients to begin considering their trims from the early stages. This allows them to test certain qualities and looks as we move through the sampling process. Additionally, we ensure we factor in cost as these can easily add up.
